Bungie announced plans to restore previously removed Destiny 2 content including campaigns, destinations, and raids. The move reverses the controversial Destiny Content Vault system implemented six years ago that deleted paid player experiences.
The studio acknowledged the removal's impact on player trust and engagement. "We understand that removing these experiences had a lasting impact on player trust and enjoyment of Destiny," Bungie stated in its announcement.
The Destiny Content Vault, introduced in 2020 ahead of the Beyond Light expansion, removed significant portions of the game to manage file sizes and technical performance. Players lost access to entire campaigns, multiplayer maps, and endgame activities they had purchased.
No timeline or specific content list has been detailed for the restoration effort. Bungie did not clarify which vaulted experiences would return first or provide a complete roadmap for the initiative.
The announcement comes after months of reduced development activity on Destiny 2, following studio layoffs in October 2023. The statement signals renewed commitment to the franchise, though players remain cautious given previous support promises.
