SAMSUNG ADOPTS SILICON CARBON BATTERIES IN NEW FOLD

Silicon carbon batteries represent an evolution in smartphone power storage. The technology replaces traditional graphite anodes with silicon-carbon composites, enabling higher energy density and improved charge retention over extended use cycles. Chinese manufacturers including Xiaomi, OPPO, and others have already deployed silicon carbon batteries in their flagship models. Samsung's adoption in the Fold series extends the technology's reach into premium Western markets. The batteries address a persistent consumer complaint: smartphone battery degradation. Devices with silicon carbon technology maintain capacity better across hundreds of charge cycles compared to conventional lithium-ion cells. Challenge remain. Silicon carbon batteries are more expensive to produce and require careful thermal management. Manufacturing at scale presents additional obstacles. Manufacturers project the technology will become standard in flagship devices within the next two to three years as production costs decline and reliability improves.
