Instagram is rolling out a new "Your Algorithm" feature that allows users to see and modify the topics the platform's algorithm thinks they're interested in. The feature will eventually expand beyond topics to include people, moods, content types, and more.
Instagram is giving users direct control over their feed algorithm through the new "Your Algorithm" feature announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri.
The feature displays the topics Instagram believes users are interested in, allowing them to add or remove interests to reshape their main feed. "You can now see the topics we think you're interested in, and change them, across all the major parts of Instagram," Mosseri said.
Currently, the feature focuses on topic-based customization. However, Instagram is actively developing expanded functionality to let users adjust their feeds based on specific people, different moods or vibes, and various content types.
This move represents Instagram's incremental effort to give users greater control over their content experience. The company has been gradually introducing more transparency and user agency around algorithmic curation, particularly as platforms face ongoing scrutiny about algorithmic feeds and content recommendations.
The rollout comes as social media platforms balance algorithmic content delivery—which drives engagement—with user preferences for control. Instagram's approach allows it to maintain its engagement-focused algorithm while addressing user concerns about seeing irrelevant content.
The feature will be available across Instagram's major sections, suggesting a comprehensive implementation rather than a limited test. As development continues on expanded customization options, users will have additional levers to pull beyond topics alone.
Instagram has not specified a full rollout timeline, but the feature appears to be launching progressively to users.
